Will the grass ever be mowed?
The drainage ditches along my property have not been mowed once this year. I do mow the road side portion, but the center and back side are too steep and deep, I can't do it. Small trees have taken root, weeds, tall grass and prickly vine things are really dense now. Water is not draining properly, culverts are going to get clogged.....isn't this going to end up costing more money in the long run to deal with it?

Budget cuts and cut backs. Many (here) asked for it. These are some of the results.

If I remember correctly, I believe DPW said they would only mow roadways 1-2x per year unless it was safety issue. If I were you, I would make a call and ask them if they could put it on the schedule and you may be surprised!

From the QAC website -
Who cleans ditches and storm drains? The Roads Division not only cleans, but repairs County-maintained ditches and storm drains. Requests can be called in to the Roads Division at (410) 758-0920 between 7:00am and 3:30pm Monday through Friday (between Memorial Day and Labor Day, the Roads Division operates on a 4-day work week with Fridays being closed. The summer hours are 6:00am to 4:30pm Monday through Thursday).
Who cuts grass along the roads? The Roads Division cuts the grass in the County right-of-way along County-maintained roadways. Not the way I remember reading it during the budget cuts.
If I recall correctly.....secondary county roads will not be mowed, only if it's a safety (visibility) issue. Also, property owners are responsible for maintenance and repair cost of their own culverts now. In the past, you only paid for materials, which makes sense.....it is on the county right of way.
Is this not true?
I will give them a call. Hopefully they don't send a crew down just to mow my ditch and clean the debris in front of my culvert, since I see the same thing along several properties up and down the road (8 miles of it) I live on.....if they did only respond to me, that would be a very poor use of time and resources.
We'll see.
