OK what just happen?? It appears that because a recent vote(3to2 in favor) by the county commissioners we could all start seeing Targets and Kmart's all over the county. Is this a done deal? What can be done to stop i :'(t?

Kohl's in Talbot County just had a job fair for over 100 positions - would be nice to put some of our people to work as well - not thrilled with big box either - but unfortunately, I believe it is a necessary evil. They are only permitted in certain zoning locations - lets hope they require strict design standards.

This is what happens when you get a real-estate agent on board. More developments and big box stores. Exactly...

This group of commissioners is the worst I have seen in the 10+ years I have lived here. I can take a tax increase, or I can take an increase in development, but with these guys we get socked with BOTH!
Biggest tax increase since I have lived here passed by an all-Republican county commission. Just shows that, at least locally, party does not matter. You get screwed by the Dems and screwed by the Reps.

Just shows that, at least locally, party does not matter. You get screwed by the Dems and screwed by the Reps. Unfortunately, developers know how to work both parties and that is the underlying problem. The officials feel the pressure to give in to them since they are their primary campaign finance funding source. This is true for at least three of them on the council. MD Campaign Finance Database has a wealth of info to support this. Doesn't matter what party is in control, the developer party always wins....

Hopefully, they don't try and jam one in on Kent Island (unless they convert the old outlets).

How is this a necessary evil? How does paying low wages help anyone? They rape the area by taking our money and paying low salaries...doesn't help much.

Low salaries? They are paying better than the local, smaller guys, and the benefits are better. It's called the free market - supply and demand - you know, that concept that has run the country for over 200 years - seems to be heading for extinction under the Obama Administration - but it still is what makes the world go round.

So excited to hear about this! I would love a Super Walmart or Target. I am tired of driving to Delware or Annapolis for everything.

Sorry but, Wah Wah Wah They weren't here when you came here, maybe you should consider a move. Again, Most of us came here to get away from that crap, and the congestion that it brings.

There is a new generation of young professionals who are keeping our community alive and this is a perfect way to keep us here. Just note, most of us did not MOVE here but were born here.

Bchevy-another perfect example of why this website gets a lot of flack...your comment was just plain rude. I am adult, if you would like to have an adult conversation let me know.

There is a new generation of young professionals who are keeping our community alive and this is a perfect way to keep us here. Just note, most of us did not MOVE here but were born here. According to the information you put in your profile when you registered you are 63. Are you a young professional who was born here yet lies about their age? Or, are you a 63 year old who lies about being a young professional? Where is this website getting a lot of flack? Your registration date, number of posts, and self-assigned status as "young" all imply you are very new to this site. You should probably stick around a while and get a feel for it before slamming one of the major contributors.

So because I don't post on here often it is okay to be rude to me? Also, have you ever talked other people about this site? I have talked to numerous people who refuse to use this site because of how 'new posters' are treated if they have a different opinion. Perfect example.
ps-not sure about my profile, thanks for the heads up.

Stick around for a while and you'll see. I talk to people about this site all the time. Apparently, we run in different crowds. There is a bit of frustration on the part of us old, redneck, geezers on this board towards the young, professional, whipper-snappers who come on here and start the same worn out discussions/arguments that have been hashed and re-hashed several times before. Perhaps you misinterpreted that frustration as rudeness. You should stick around a while and get a feel for the place before getting too upset about other's comments.

I am trying to stick around, but the 2nd time I ever post I am treated with what you call 'frustration'. I was raised to treat all people with respect, even if you have different opinions. I disagree with many of the posts that were put on this thread, however I only stated my feelings. I did not once say that the other posters were wrong or made 'frustrating' comments toward them. We should be able to use this site as a forum to share and discuss relevant information and our opinions, not belittle or be rude to one another. I feel like there are a lot of people who will are thrilled that these big box stores are coming, including myself. I do appreciate your post and I will do my best to stick around.

No, we don't have to move to get away from Big Box Stores. Just came back from a great vacation out West and went to a number of Ghost towns. Fun to see in their back yards! On my way out of these abandoned communities were Wal Marts- EVERYWHERE!!!
Let us have a referendum and quit arguing and insulting each other. Referendum forms will be available in stores soon. Speak out with your signature and make this a better place. Will post locations shortly.

Ditto what falgar said, you ARE able to "use this site as a forum to share and discuss relevant information and our opinions". Ther are some rude ones here once in a while, they come and go. Bchevy isn't on that list, at least not with me. Hang out a while, no need to leave.
