Their called cake eaters deputy. They want to move here for the "country" lifestyle but then turn around and want the convenience of where they left. And ruin it for the rest, all the while insulting those who don't want to pave the island.

I really have a hard time understanding why some people move here. This isn't a question, it's an observation. If what you want isn't here, why are you here? Deputy, Let me answer that with a similar question. If you don't like where Kent Island is headed or how it is evolving, why do you stay? That's really backassward and arrogant thinking.

Alleycat, For Deputy's way of thinking or mine. Let me guess, you like it the way it is. Great for you. I personally think it is backassward and arrogant to think you are intitled to things never evolving and being happy with low quality stores. I personally would like to see better quality of stores. I believe more people are going to move to Kemt Island because the DC area is growing like crazy and more people will support a better quality selection of stores like the MCDs. Again, just my opinion!

They don't even need to build new shopping centers, there's plenty of existing buildings that are currently empty. I'm not sure why anyone would have a problem with a nicer store moving into an empty building. I guess a few nicer stores makes KI worse somehow? I haven't quite figured out that logic.

If only they would move into existing space. They rarely do, preferring to build new, pave more.
And you're right...I like it the way it is...was. It is normal to fit into the new place, culture, not we who are better are taking over and you who have been here forever can just get the hell out if you don't like it.
Sorry...did you come here so dc could follow you? I think not.

Again, just my opinion! You say: "I personally think it is backassward and arrogant to think you are intitled to things never evolving and being happy with low quality stores" PLEASE SHOW ME WHERE THAT IS WRITTEN. STOP PUTTING WORDS IN PEOPLES MOUTHS TO MAKE YOUR POINT. No one wrote that here that I've seen. and: "I believe more people are going to move to Kemt Island because the DC area is growing like crazy and more people will support a better quality selection of stores...." Of course they will and that will happen in time. I said it's stupid (not to mention selfish)to WANT more people here, in order for YOU to get YOUR high end stores.... Again, WHY did you move here, if what you want, isn't here? I knew exacly what I was getting when I came here, and I did not, and will not, try to bring what I left behind with me. When I came here there's wasn't even a KMart! Oh the humanity! Imagine the possibility of NO KMart! I'm a big boy and know how to get in my car and go somewhere for what I NEED, and it's it's not here I go to where it is. I don't NEED every flippping think in life at my fingertips when I know how to get it. I'm sorry if the stores on KI don't measure up to the expectations of the apparently rich spoiled folks (or wannabes) who have infiltrated the fine living that's over here. (and it's FINE even if YOU don't think so.) When I moved here people waived at each other even if they didn't know them. Try that now and you get looked at like you have 3 heads. If someone can make a living in a rats nest of a store, good for them. If they have something I need I'll go in there. Remember, your "low quality" could be someone elses gold mine so stop judging. Remember, it's all about OPINIONS so don't get your panties in a wad.

Some of us would just like some of the existing buildings filled with nice stores or restaurants. Just taking a WAG here but I'd think that's how the majority feel, I doubt many people want to see new housing developments and new shopping centers. I like what Dunkin Donuts is doing, knocking down the old Pizza Hut and building something nicer there. No new shopping center needed. The same could be done with the Acme building if someone actually wanted to move in there. I don't see how some modest improvements would result in KI becoming "Kent Burnie" or whatever.

Sorry it does not align with your reasoning for living on Kent Island.

Don't blame me. I tell everyone that Kent Island sucks so they don't move here. The bridge traffic is horrible and it is scary to cross. There are too many crappy stores and/or nasty people working at or running them. If you want something, you have to cross the bridge. We have 2 McD's, Cracker Barrel, and Big Lots. 18 convenience stores and just as many liquor stores but they can't sell liquor at most of the convenience stores. We used to have Wendy's but we needed a convenience store. Then I tell them if they don't believe me they should check out this website and see how these grown men argue because they misread one another's opinions.

For goodness sake, I don't think it's too much to ask to have a clean, well-managed, and consistently well stocked grocery story in the KI/Chester area. I don't think wishing for that is ruining anyone's peace of mind here. I stopped going to Safeway, and now make the drive to Centreville to the Acme or Food Lion.

Been a while since I have posted here and this "quality shopping" issue related to Safeway and other stores on the island really heated up. It is obvious there are some posters here, who will go nameless, appear to have been around here for some time and feel change is horrible. Others, most likely newer to the island, feel there is room for change. Given all the shopping on this island is limited to that Rte. 50 corridor, why can't we have better shopping along that corridor? I've not seen any proposals calling for paving over more of that area to a great degree. As for population to support such better shopping, seems it may arrive with the Cloisters and Four Seasons development with possible limited growth if the SKI sewer goes through. What I do not see, IMHO, is where the "end of the world" doom and gloom that seems to pervade with some (the "no growthers") if there is better stores and some development? As a matter of fact, if I recall correctly, all new development is up the island, correct? So, where can there be middle ground? Being rudely told to go off island if you want better shopping or why did you move here in the first place, is the voice of intransience and unwillingness to have change in some fashion. I hope I did not put any words into anyone's mouth!

Of course many here think that just because we want a little style or better then below average stores/restaurants that we want to pave the bay. You can get your panties out of a wad now!

It's amazing to me what people read into a thread. Comprehensions skills are seriously lacking. awesome job on twisting words that are never written into whatever the insult of the day is.
I guess we're back to to having 2 or 3 phantom posters backing up each other....
Not a threat but a promise- if threads start going the way the sewer threads went, they will go away just like the sewer threads.

This thread reminds me of a Senior center with a bunch of catty old broads chattin' it up. So much hostility from a bunch of 40+ year old people.

Bought some grapefruit at Safeway. Went to eat one this morning. It was so old, that when I cut it open, the seeds inside had begun to sprout! Yech....that store is disgusting. Needs to be shut down. Sad that the only other option on the island is not much better.

I agree about Safeway, the store is not well managed and lacks any quality controls. I have found that Food Lions produce has come a long way in quality. I am shopping more and more at Food Lion.

Yes Jack, Food Lion has definitely stepped up their game. I find myself going to Food Lion and Acme in Centreville more and more often. I've tried talking to the manager at Safeway, I've tried contacting their corporate people. Corporate always refers back to the store manager.
