Alanr why don't you explain to us what you're referring to regarding this trailer. I'm sure we would love to hear more.

What's with the new trailer location mixed in with boat sales. First the pawn shops then Big lots now this. I heard we are getting more rental apartments. Oh boy. The area is really going down hill fast. What's next a strip joint? Hi Alan, are you referring to our developed property that has been here for 5 years doing boat storage, service and sales. With buildings we spent more than we should have on to make them look "old" and to blend in with the island as best as possible instead of just going with the strip mall look? If so, I am the owner. So by "trailers" are you referring to the brand new Winnebago's that we have showcased along Rt 50? Would you prefer we go back to having random boats stored here? If this was your property what would you do with it? Please let me know and I'll see what we can do.

Because the Mercedes dealership parking cars in the grass along 50 was ok, but boats and Winnies are trashing the place up?

yachtjim, just to let you know. Word has it you run a very nice business. Don't let these forum idiots / whiners get to you. They're a tiny minority. Immature losers. Good luck with your business.

I have been here since 1988, and you are pointing your finger specifically at me and my property. You actually used it in the same thought as a strip joint and implied that I am helping bring this place down.
So if you owned my property what would you do with it? Keep in mind you are limited to about 6000 Sq feet of interior space on the entire property (11 acres), and you are not allowed to pave any more than the tiny parking lots that we have. What would you do?

Excuse me but I wasn't pointing a finger at anyone. I was just saying there is a place for everything, boats, fishing, is what we are known for. Now we will be known for other things that will hurt the area in my opinion. I hope you do well after all I have a boat that your location sells. Love the boat love the dealer, just hate the other things.
It's time to slow things down.

As someone who has had the finger that "you weren't pointing" pointed at me numerous times, I have to side with Jim. All accounts are that he is running a VERY respectful, small business and contributes to the local community and economy. As I recall, he coordinated several trucks running north with donations after Sandy and I know there are many other things he is involved in. The bottom line is that when you do or say or don't do or say something or there is some business that Alanr does not fall in line with, you are subject to rumor, inuendo and any manner of slight. As others have posted, stick to your guns Jim! Try (as I have done) to IGNORE the rest...

Lately, it's starting to look like Rt 50 is a major, transcontinental highway or something ... not the dead end dirt road everyone moved to live near!

Lately, it's starting to look like Rt 50 is a major, transcontinental highway or something ... not the dead end dirt road everyone moved to live near! Agreed. What is up with 50 and 301? There are businesses that are trying to grow along the growth coridor. They should set up shop near the homeless shelter. Better place to grow your business and not be an eye sore along a major US HIGHWAY! Not!

Get rid of the boats and RVS and sell some burgatti cars. The anti-growth crowd will love them. They are rich and hate businesses trying to grow. You can call theme directly at 800 - F- U .

What Yachtjim is doing is called economic activity, and is a good thing. That piece of land sat useless for years until he did something with it. Commercial development in appropriately zoned commercial areas is a positive.
I believe it was Julius Grollman who noted that the bridge ran both ways and used to invite complainers to move on. If you never spent time in his store, you missed a treat and maybe don't have enough tenure to tell us dumb locals how to live.
Some people weren't happy where they were, aren't happy here, and won't be happy where they go. Just can't please them.
Doode

Rte 50/301 from the island through just before Rte 213 is essentially a "commercial" corridor, correct? I do not see much of anything commercial beyond that stretch save for some businesses along Rte 18. Once you get beyond these areas, all residential. Is there an opinion here that this shouldn't be so? I'd much rather see businesses among other businesses than stretching out and invading residential areas. For example, once you get beyond the small strip center on Rt 8 south on KI, you have not much commercial presence at all. There is the business park well off Rt 8. What is the problem with locating shopping along these areas? This area is far from becoming another Glen Burnie.

Where would you put "shopping" on rte 8 in that stretch you talk about? Coming to a backyard near you.

I guess you may have misunderstood me when I said what commercial businesses are along Rt 8 DO NOT stretch beyond the strip center on the right at you drive south, maybe less than a half mile from Rte 50. Re-reading my post, the location of my last line makes it look like I was suggesting commercial stuff down Rte 8. I should have prefaced the line with the Rte 50/Rte 301 corridor to Rte 213 as the stretch for shopping in this area. My bad.

If anyone wanted more commercial interest there on 8, I would be hard pressed to imagine where without encroaching on residential properties. There has often been agitation for more businesses down 8. Heaven forbid.
