Lastnight was the final straw. 1st off, the only reason we go back is because our son likes it. But no more.
7:00 pm on a Saturday and the restaurant part was pretty much dead. It took 15 minutes just to get our server. Then she brings us chips n salsa. The salsa was 1/3 full in what was identical to a Wendy's paper chili cup! "You've got to be kidding me!" Next, we get a big plate of nachos. Do you think they brought us any plates?? NOPE! Then I had to search for a bottle of hot sauce that wasn't empty. The management of R's should be EMBARRASED and ashamed to be in this business. Do you even train your staff??? Obviously not.
The Owner should keep the bar and sub-lease the restaurant part to someone that knows what they're doing. ENOUGH is ENOUGH.

I went there last night while working. Didn't find it to be bad at all. However we saw the server when we first sat down. When he took our order, and that was it.
But the food and chips were great.

Have to agree. The first time we went when they first opened, things we not all that good. We gave them a second chance and the service and food had improved however our last two visits have been about the same as everyone else here is saying.
I guess they just don't get it, poor service = no customers!

We had a great experience at R's this week. The chips and salsa were delicious. We had a Bar-b-Q chicken flat bread and chicken quesedillas and enjoyed both very much. Our server was fast and pleasant. We left happy.
Guess you can't please everybody!

I agree that the service at R's is probably the worst I've seen. There are 2 servers that know what they're doing, but thats it. In the restaurant biz, poor service is a direct result of poor management. I can't believe they gave you salsa in a paper cup! Thats hilarious!

.......... Guess you can't please everybody! That phrase is so wrong in a resturant setting. Their ultimate goal to be successful is to please at least 98% of their customer base, which clearly isn't happening. Of all the posts about Rs and all the people I know who won't go back there.... I would say their approval rating is about 21%. And that is bad!

Too bad we can't get Fred's Grapevine back..
R's could be alright, I like the decor, but it's the same old problem.. lack of good help, employee training, and obviously management.
Shame. The place looks fun.
I gave them three shots. I have lost interest.
Service is bad and restaurant policy stinks.
My first visit I sat in the dining area right next to the bar wall. I ordered a marguerita only to discover on the other side of the wall it was half price. I told the waitress I was going to move to the other side of the wall.. She was annoyed. Twice my dinner was delivered without what was advertised on the menu.. eg. tacos without sour cream and quac.
On another occasion, I think it was a burrito or something similar that was supposed to come with beans and rice.. they brought me the plate with just the burrito! It took me several minutes to get the attention of the bartender who was on the other end of the bar yacking on the phone. Another several minutes before someone from the kitchen delivered a small portion of beans and still no rice.. and speaking of the rice, doesn't anybody there know what mexican style rice is supposed to look and taste like?
During this whole time I was enjoying the chips, salsa, and a marguerita, but I ran out and the bartender never came back to offer another drink or refill the chips and salsa.
I don't know why people open businesses and are so indifferent to customer service. Reminds me of the time a friend opened a paint and wallpaper store on the island. His hours were 6 AM till about 1 PM. No hours on Saturday or Sunday. He complained all the time about the locals going across the bridge to shop!!
I wonder what the owners of R's are blaming their lack of business on?
Cheers.

Has anyone on this forum spoken with the owner or management? I said my piece a while back and thought I would check in and unfortunately it seems it has gotten worse? I tried several times to contact someone in charge and never got a response. Ther must be SOMEBODY that has an explanation on behalf of the business as to why it is this bad and what is going to be done ,if anything about it. I was pretty harsh in my earlier pieces(different thread) and have not been back in but does it not strike anyone funny that things are being ignored? someone has got to know the owner or somebody working there. Who is running the place? The last thing the island needs is any empty, abandoned free standing building sitting on route 50. So much money put into the building and not into food and service.Somebody has got to have some insight.

Everybody is always to first to say negative things about someone or something but never the positive even me. I was never a big fan of R's but I did give it a 3rd try and it was excellent. Now I can say I have been in there over 20 times and only once have I had a bad meal or service since the 3rd time. I did e-mail Rick Sarmiento and he was all over it the next day. Every place has bad days but he took car of it fast. You have to say they have come a long way. The food has always been good the service very good for Kent Island. He is changing his menu with the times to bring in cheaper lunch specials. Hey did you ever think the lot was half empty because of the big "R" word? Not only has he slowed down but so has everybody else and I don't see them changing there menu to help there customers. If you have a problem just ask for the owner I am sure Rick will help. I hope this is OK with Rick but he can be reached @ rdsarm@aol.com. If you really have a problem and have the balls not to hide behind "Guest" give him a shot. He is a local and here to help. The food really is very good. There are plenty other places on the island I would not step into and I have complained to the owner and nothing was done. My guess is R's will be standing room only come June, then we can complain that you can't get in because they are to busy. How many people really like R's I would think more than don't. If you can please 90% of your customers you are doing good even though they try for 100%. We are a tough bunch on Kent Island. We want everything then complain when we get it.

I have been to R's 4 times now, and it's been fine - maybe I've just gotten lucky, but I thought that it was OK. I like the Chimi's a lot and the Margaritas were good. It's not "authentic" Mexican Cafe' type stuff, but I don't think that's what they are trying to be. I took it as a Tex-Mex / Americana fusion type place. The inside is very nice and the bar area especially is a big improvement over where it used to be before the remodeling. I think that they will do fine and this summer they will get a lot of business from people going to/from the beaches as well. It's something different for our area and I really hope that people here give it a chance - and if you think that it's something that needs to be addressed - contact the owner/manager. He seems to care and wants to accommodate, according to the post above this.

To say their food is "really, very good" is a far stretch. But, then again, some folks think McDonalds is good, too. It's certainly better than when they opened, though. I would say that it's sub-par. I mean really, that Velveeta crap they put on everything just screams "CHEAP"! Additionally, their are 2, maybe 3, servers that know "How to be a good Server", but that's about it. As for them "coming a long way", THEY HAVE A LOOOONG WAY TO GO! The restauraunt biz is not the clothing biz. You don't really believe that recession crap, do you?? I would say that if the westbound span of the bridge is closed for 4 hours from 4-8 on a weekend, you might have trouble getting a table.

Well, a while ago, due to all of this talk about it, we decided we would try R's. We figured we could eliminate service issues by doing the curb-side pick-up and eating it in the comfort of our home.
A few things..
1) The food...was mediocre at best. Sorry to say it, but it was the most BLAND tex-mex I have ever had. There seemed to be a total lack of cumin and the smoky, earthy "mex" flavors one would be expecting to find. Heck, I would have been happy to notice chili flavor at all.
2) The steak used in one of our entrees...was HORRID. There was so much gristle and fat in it that it actually CRUNCHED. Inedible.
3) The desserts, were ok. But, let's face it, it's hard to screw up brownies.
4) The prices, were WAY over what they should have been for what we received. WAY. And I do not mind paying good money for good food. This was not the case.
From now on, when I want good Mexican food, I will make the drive over to Los Portales. THEY have some rocking food.
To end on a more positive note, the people I spoke with for the ordering and the pick-up, were super friendly and pleasant and the order was EXACTLY as we placed it and ready EXACTLY when they said it would be. I don't hold them responsible for the quality (or actual lack thereof) of the food at all.

Did anyone use the email address provided earlier and contact the owner? Any results? By the way the polka dots ARE silly. They have got the poor servers dressed up in them too. Must be humiliating.Word is a new Tex -Mex is coming to the Narrows in the parcel in front of the Jetty.Maybe4 these are restaurant people.

If you all think the food fare is Tex Mex, you are sadley mistaken. It may have more of a mexican flavor (a lot like Jalisco's in Annapolis)...but not Tex Mex.
But that's ok...
SG68 where is the place you mentioned?

Island Lady....
I had a problem a while ago and did e-mail the owner. Not only did I get a response fast, Rick wanted to know everything. He took care of the problem I had, FAST and offered me a free dinner. FYI - I did not take the offer, it was enough that he really does care. Give him a shot and tell him what the problem is if you really have one. I am one that sends back food if there is a problem but in this case R's really has come a long way. Rick has taken a big shot to give us good food at a risk to him and his family. I don't know him personaly but from my short dealings with him he is a stand up guy. I don't know any one that has given it 110% like R's. I bet if you talk to him while you are having dinner he will speak with you. Constuctive advise is good if it is done to help not hinder.

I have been there twice and will go back. I had fun and enjoyed the atmosphere and the food. Service and service personnel were more than good (I left a good tip both times). Drinks were good and were not over priced and the coffee was good. And even when the bar and restaurant are full the place is not too loud. I am not a food critic but I play one on the internet.
