Hopefully, us voters make the right decision this time and the trash is taken to the curb. I've heard alot said in this forum regarding the two candidates for sheriff, and I'm still torn between voting for someone who was in the old administration but sounds capable of taking in a new direction, and someone with law enforcement background but no link to the the past. Either way I'll have to go with my gut feeling this evening.

Insiders: send your proof to the proper STATE authorities, and or the Baltimore news channels, Channel 11 is hot on this kind of stuff.
It's time to put up or shut up if you ask me, If it's Illegal, and local authorities wont act, move it up a step or two.

btw, Channel 11 is big on corruption. I have a neighbor that had problem with black (poisonous )mold and was filing complaints against a host of people from builders to county inspectors etc. One phone call to channel 11 and they were out here the next day.

I think there is a misunderstanding among the readers about the candidates. The last two writers talked about corruption and illegal issues. I don't believe in any way, shape or form that the many insiders were implying that the sheriff candidates had done anything criminal or endorse corruption. If the last two writers were referring to the truck stop issue then people definitely misunderstood. The insiders and other writers were just expressing there views and opinions and think it was just a bad decision to except money from a business that either currently is or NO Longer under investigation for alleged illegal gambling. Nothing More. Just the simple fact that people thought it was in bad taste and ethically wrong. Not saying taking the money was a crime, just poor judgment. Others may feel that there was nothing done wrong. Thats OK as well. This Is America and people get to have an opinion and you know what they say about opinions! As American citizens one of our greatest rights that were given to us by our forefathers was the right to have free speech. It's a shame that people on this site would recommend or threaten that an investigation might be done on the writers who are just exercising there constitutional given rights of free speech. You may not agree with any of the writers that have posted on this site but they still have a right to say whats on there mind. Isn't that what makes America great. On one letter it talked about the truck stop trying to buy the sheriff's office or even the sheriff. The point to that was to show how the citizens may perceive, NOT that Mr. Hofmann was taking kickbacks or bribes. Just how the perception may be. A persons perception is ones reality whether it the truth or not. Congrats to Mr. Hofmann on winning the race and my condolences to Mr. Rhodes. Both are fine people.

Reply to all the Insiders whose jobs are more important than their duty-------When Hitler gave the option to his soldiers to get the Jews, or go to the Russian front, the Jews got the short end of the stick. When the line was drawn in the sand at the Alamo, not one man crossed the line. It's time to stand up and be counted boys & girls. Evil can only exist when good men do nothing..........Pete Richter

Geesh, I can NOT keep all the guests, insiders, etc. etc. straight.
there's been plenty of talk, talk of proof, proof of an illegal quota system, talk of taking it to higher ups in QA county to no avail.
Take It Higher.
Now it SEEMS what's old is new.

Bchevy: There definitely was a quota issue under the current administration, which would be referring to the Crossley administration. But here is the good news. Sometime in December 2006 a new sheriff will take office and that person would be Mr. Hofmann. I believe and hope when Mr. Hofmann takes office this practice of quota whether formal or informal will no longer exist. I believe and hope that Mr. Hofmann will begin to set things straight in the agency and move us in a forward direction. I hope that the deputies will not have to worry about how many drunk driving arrests they make or how many drug arrests, or how many tickets or warnings issued in order to get a good pay raise. I hope and believe under the new leadership of Mr. Hofmann this practice will be extinct. The dictatorship of the current administration has fallen and powers are no more.

to phantom ghost mr hoffman has been groomed by the previous administration. so has a few of the current supervisors. this new administration will continue on the same path. people are creatures of habit and leopards can not change their spots. nothing will change and things are expected to stay the same or even get worse. time to accept what comes down the pike. the voters have spoken and no whining is allowed for those that put this new administration in place.

Only Mr. Hofmann knows his true plans for the direction of the agency that he wants to go in. One can only hope that the new sheriff will do the right thing and get this place back in order. He may not and it may be the same thing as it always been. Hopefully not and all the deputies have left to hang on is the hope that the new sheriff will do right. A clean slate. A chance to start clean and go forward. You may be very right, it may be the same good old boy system. One can only hope that this will not be the case. If so, then again the agency will lose many great deputies. I would think that someone like Mr. Hofmann who is no stranger to the wheel of despair would not do onto others and was done to him. That person knows what it's like to be hated by the administration and put on the hit list. Only time will tell. One can only hope!

I hope Hofmann puts a satellite station on Kent Island and starts community policing.

to uvrays I don't think you will see this for a long time. for many reasons including manpower, the agency does not have the ability for a proactive community relations unit. Up until now community policing has been radar assignments. This is not even close to what community based policing is. With three or four deputies working the county per shift it will not be possible to implement this type of unit. The agency needs a complete restructuring which would include a organized K9 unit, traffic investigation unit, additional detectives and additional patrol deputies. This is not foreseeable in the near future. We will see but don't get your hopes up as Mr. Hoffman has his work cut out for him due to the mess left by the previous sheriff and chief deputy. Besides the info floating around is that Hoffman will be keeping Chief Deputy Benton on under contract for a while. "BUSINESS AS USUAL".

THE CAPTAIN WILL STAY ON FOR ONLY 90 DAYS AND NO LONGER..THIS IS PER HR FOR TRANSITIONAL PURPOSES ONLY....A NEW CHIEF DEPUTY HAS BEEN SELECTED AND THE CAPTAIN AND THE SHERIFF ARE BOTH RETIRING....
THE SHERIFF WILL LEAVE AFTER SHERIFF HOFMANN IS SWORN IN AND THE CAPTAIN 90 DAYS LATER. THERE IS ALOT OF AUDIT PROCEDURES THAT NEED TO BE FOLLOWED. HR MAKES THE DECISION. ANYWAY BOTH WILL BE GONE SOON.

would not be surprised if Benton stays on as long as he wants. you have to remember all these supervisors now have something on each other!!!! this is why an outsider was drastically needed to run this agency.
