I heard that plans for a new Super-Giant supermarket has gone through and that it will be built on Main Street in Chester (by Castle Marina Rd). Does anyone know anything about this? I'm wondering if it's going to be a big strip-mall, or just a Giant?

I heard that the Giant was part of the Hovanian deal and is going to be a stand alone. I'm guessing that the county has lifted the moratorium since Safeway is building their new store (with a Starbucks in it!).

Heard that the old Safeway location will be cut up into two stores and that the landlord will be buying the property back from Safeway. They will be extending the shopping center over to the new Safeway. Either way it can only help. The new Safeway I would think will be a great addition to Kent Island. The old one is still the best around till them.

Thanks Scott! That's pretty balsy for a competitor to sneak in an advertisement on the site that they are trying to compete with and/or imitate, etc. Oh well, what are you going to do...!
We have some cool new ideas that will become part of Kent Island Online within the next few weeks and months. More redisigning and tweaks for the overall look of the site are coming, as are a few more sections that will useful for locals and tourists. We also have an Op/Ed page and community news page if anyone wants to contribute as a writer to the site. As always, if anyone has an idea on how to improve this site, Email me at webmaster@kentisland.org. Thanks for choosing Kent Island Online!

Hello Administrator,
I thought you maybe interested to find your competitor is stating that you invited her to advertise on your site. She is nothing more than the dozen or few no growthers who are copying everybody's blog.
Kuddo's to this site- we only need one not repeat(s) I think a phone call to Ms. Baker would set the record set.
Sincerely Krisha,

Why don't all of you web people get together rather than compete with eachother?

Eric,
That is easier said then done. I believe this site should be the main one. All the others should join this site.

Back to the new Giant - As a relatively new resident of this fine place called Kent Island, I would like to say it's about time for the supermarkets to catch up with the times. The old Safeway is about as inviting as a coal mine, ditto for the Acme. The Food Lion is looking up since the remodel, and the selection is better. Hopefully the competition will bring about even more increases in the variety and quality. I welcome ANY improvements to the shopping selection on this side of the bridge.

I agree with Steve as long as he is not talking about building more supermarkets, just re-inventing the existing. We already have 3 and that is plenty.

The new Safeway will be a much needed improvement. Acme is a horrible little supermarket that is both dirty, and way overpriced. Food lion has improved, but it's still very small and lacking in selection. A Giant would be good for a few reasons. It would be clean, have a great selection, and most importantly...they use locals for produce and seafood whenever possible. The only bad thing about Giant is that they tend to be more pricey than Safeway (but nothing like Acme). I would hope that they would consider the "Club 1" outlets for a place rather than building another strip-mall though. Too bad that won't happen. Once Club 1 moves out of the outlets like they are planning to do, that place will be a ghost town again.

Well my gut feeling are if Four Seasons is shut down we will never see a Giant. This is what they could be waiting for? When Club 1 moves to the other side of the road, next year from what I heard(Rummor) if will kill the shopping center. I hope the Spot is not hurt, love the place..

I agree, we don't need anymore supermarkets (3)............ schools (6), gas stations (11), liquor stores (6), half a** restaurants (too many to count), condos (also too many to count), or chicken neckers (air is wasting away and island is sinking). Remember we live on an ISLAND!

Yay! Giant uses local produce and seafood and is much better that the filthy and expensive Acme, the tiny and soon to be dirty again Food Lion, and overpriced Safeway.

Someone better define "local" for some of these people, I doubt Giant will be buying anymore produce from Queen anne's county than they do now. Giant Food=Cheap? Give me a break. I've shopped there.

The new Giant is definitely something I don't want to see simply because we really don't need it. Even if Giant did buy locally from QA County, they could only do it during the months that you can grow produce around here and during those months Lawry's and other local produce stands have the best tomatos, corn, etc. anyway. So why buy it at Giant? Same goes for seafood..........actually, I like to catch my own, but that's just me.

That's funny look at the permits that have been applied for. I have had business with her and once was enough. I don't believe anything she says.

You call the stores on the island supermarkets..LOL...I wouldn't be caught dead in any of them..Competition is always best for the consumer...Think of the price wars..and who will benefit from them...YOU..I live on the island and have to shop in either Annapolis or Easton..that's sad
